Kenny Coates
1942-2024
Kenneth W. Coates, age 82 of Granbury, Texas went to be with the Lord on August 24, 2024. Kenny was born August 3, 1942, in Perryton, Texas. He lived most of his life in Spearman, Texas, a native son of the Texas Panhandle.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Donna; sons Darren Neal (Lee Ann), Jay Riggs (Shari), daughters Brenda Bunch, Cyndi Riggs, Kakie Currey (Darrell); brother Galen Coates (Anna); ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; cherished nieces and nephews; valued extended family and friends; and his feline sidekick, Big Daddy.
Kenny served his country in the United States Air Force stationed in Texas and Kansas. His greatest pleasure in life was his family. He enjoyed teaching his kids to play T-Ball, ride bikes, fish, and camp, and later taught them to drive on the streets of Fort Worth. He tortured them with John Wayne movies and the country music of Hank, Willy, Waylon, and the Boys, and don’t forget Merle. He treasured the time spent with the kids living in Missouri - each his favorite cowboy and his favorite Dallas Cowboy fan.
Kenny enjoyed team roping, working with horses, fishing, camping, and playing golf. He also enjoyed his years as an assistant Boy Scout Leader and member of Order of the Arrow. Kenny knew how to do just about everything: excellent carpenter, welder, plumber, veterinary assistant, and friend. Kenny was always ready to help friends and neighbors with their projects and to just sit back and visit.
Kenny was always a cowboy at heart. He moved to the city and adopted city ways, but his heart was always in the saddle. He rode peacefully into heavenly pastures with tall grass, fat cattle, and broke horses.
A service celebrating Kenny’s life will be on Monday, September 9th at 2PM at First Christian Church of Granbury.
For those unable to attend, there will be a live stream and recording on the church’s Youtube account.
